I have just seen the article on the crash in house prices (Chronicle, January 1).
It quotes a local estate agent: Roshan Punn, owner of Punns estate agents in Staines Road, Hounslow, who said permission for a third runway would 'definitely have a positive impact on house prices'.
I wonder why Roshan Punn believes that increased air and noise pollution will increase the value of houses in the area.
I cannot imagine anyone but short-stay tenants, hoping to work at the airport, being prepared to move into the area.
It is not a place you would want to move into and bring up your children.
My own home in Harlington will be extremely close to the proposed new airport boundary and a third runway would make it uninhabitable - the new M4 spur road would be only10 paces from my back door.
Yet I am in no BAA scheme for compensation. Punn's sweeping statement is insulting to people like me. My mother, sister and thousands of others will be forced from their homes.
They will not get generous compensation and will not be rehoused. One thing is sure, they will not be rushing to jump out of the frying pan into the fire by moving to Hounslow, which will almost certainly suffer the nightmare of mixed mode.
There will be people who think they can make money from a third runway but there will be many more losers than winners.
