ONE of the most valued things about an outer London borough like Hillingdon is its natural diversity, and I would like to draw attention to a campaign being run by the London Wildlife Trust to protect one of the more unusual wild residents of our borough, the Stag Beetle.
I have seen these very unusual creatures in my garden and their very strange appearance immediately made me suspect some sort of undesirable pests, but in fact these very large and distinctive bugs play a useful role in the ecology that keeps wildlife in Hillingdon.
There is a great deal of information about them on the website www.wild-london.org.uk
It is a very British trait to take an interest in the animals around us and I am sure that many Hillingdon residents are keen to support their local wildlife.
