The owner of this boat on the Grand Union Canal in Uxbridge can probably empathise with homeowners flooded out this week.

As the waters of the canal rose around it – the canal is as high as it has been for many years, in places spilling across the towpath – this boat slowly filled up and settled on the muddy bottom of the waterway.

Close by, a spillway between the canal and the River Colne thundered with the unusual weight of water, but whether canal or river, it all has to pass through Uxbridge.

A flood warning was issued by the Environment Agency in the early hours of this morning (Monday) for the River Colne Willowbank and Uxbridge Moor.

Heavy rain is forecast for this area on Wednesday.
