I am writing to 'congratulate' the Chelsea Theatre on the magnificence of their autumn programme.

A two-night stopover of a national tour, one installation and two one-night-only shows.

Five nights in all, to fill the space between their brief Easter season and the Christmas pantomime. Is this all that a valuable local theatre has to offer?

If there's one area in London brimming with artists, musicians, literati and actors; which is most likely to draw a local theatre crowd; and having the most potential for local community involvement, then surely it is Chelsea.

And yet there are church halls in this country that see more productions than our own local theatre.

"London's Theatre for Live Art"? All theatre is live art, but not many theatres are as dead as The Chelsea for so much of the year.
