The request from MP Mary Macleod to stop Piccadilly line tubes at Turnham while Gloucester Road station is closed has been rejected by Transport for London.

The MP for Brentford and Isleworth asked TfL to consider a trial, stopping at Turnham Green , to be carried out while the nearby station undergoes lift works and is not scheduled to re-open until mid-December.

While she waits for a direct response to her letter from TfL's managing director Mike Brown, she said she was "disappointed" to hear the decision, but "will keep campaigning hard to get the best transport links for local people."

Nigel Holness, operations director for the Piccadilly line, said: "As we announced in January we'll be stopping Piccadilly lines trains at Turnham Green all day once the line is modernised and we have new trains and more of them - there are no plans to stop here before that time.

"In the meantime our customers at Turnham Green station will start to experience new District line trains and the frequency will increase further from 2018.

"We have also introduced a more frequent service for Piccadilly line customers on weekday evenings and Saturdays.”

Gloucester Road station was closed on May 24.

Since may 18, the Piccadilly line train services on Saturday afternoon have been boosted from 21 to 24 tubes every hour in both directions between midday and 5pm, and three extra trains will operate on evening weekdays until 11pm.

In December last year, Mary and local residents finally succeeded in getting the Mayor of London Boris Johnson to agree for Piccadilly line trains to stop at Turnham Green tube station throughout the day.

This will happen as soon as the Piccadilly line upgrade takes place.

Piccadilly Line trains currently stop at Turnham Green Station from 10.30pm to 6.50am.

In October last year, Hounslow Council proposed to TfL if it was looking for gift ideas to celebrate the borough's half centenary what it wants most is for Piccadilly line trains to finally serve Turnham Green.
