A woman was trapped under a bus for half an hour after a collision during the Monday evening rush hour, as paramedics and fire crews fought to free her.

Today, Mike Weston, Transport for London’s Director of Buses, said: "A route U5 single deck bus, operated by Metroline, struck a pedestrian on Bakers Road near to Uxbridge Bus Station.

"There will be a thorough investigation into this incident."

The patient, reported to be in her early 60s, was fully conscious and received treatment while she was being released from under the U5 bus.

She was then taken by ambulance in a stable condition to hospital.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “She was fully immobilised on scene and was taken, with the doctor and paramedic from the medical team on board the ambulance, to St Mary's Hospital.

“We sent two ambulance crews, a responder in a car and an officer to the scene, along with the medical team from London's Air Ambulance also in a car. Our first staff arrived within six minutes.”

Dozens of people were waiting at the bus station when the accident happened at 5.10pm at the junction with Belmont Road, directly in front of the Jobcentre.

Police officers cordoned off Bakers Road to prevent crowds forming and Belmont Road was closed at the Bakers Road junction.

A total of 13 bus routes which use the bus station were diverted during the busy period until police re-opened the road.
