BUDDING comedians, singers, poets and dancers are being offered a chance to showcase their talents at a Britain's Got Talent style show later this month.
Talent show Shooting Stars is being organised by members of the talent volunteering scheme, who have been working with Harrow Council’s children’s services department for the past year.
It is aimed at promoting Harrow teens in a positive light and one of the lead members Khalid O’Beirne, 19, said: "Young people are often labelled and get a bad reputation.
While we’ve been on the vtalent programme we’ve been trying to make people realise we’re not all like that and we wanted to organise an event to show everyone that young people in Harrow are doing really good things.
"We want to encourage young people to show off their talents and see what other people are up to in the borough."
Organiser Kevin Muyula added: "We want to see all sorts of acts there; we’ve already had interest from a beat boxer and some MCs - I think it’s going to be a really good show, full of great talent."
The pair have also invited charities Kids Count and Raleigh International to hold stalls at the event to promote their work.
Khalid spent five weeks working in deprived regions of India with Raleigh International last year and has been working with Kids Count, speaking at conferences to support their work.
Khalid and Kevin’s colleagues at vtalent will take on the roles of promoters and stewards at the event and will join the judging panel for the auditions, which will take place at the Wealdstone Centre next week.
Auditions, which are open to anyone under 21, will take place between 4pm and 8pm on Wednesday next week (Feb 16) with around 15 ten-minute slots up for grabs.
The final Shooting Stars show will then take place on Monday February 21 between 6pm and 9pm, at Byron Hall in Harrow Leisure Centre and will be free and open to everyone to attend.
The show will be presented by DJ Quincy, from Choice FM, and the evening’s special guest will be rapper Dotstar, who will perform his hit single Stick Up. For more information contact Khalid on 0798 3042284 or Kevin.email@example.com .
