A GANG of teenagers have been jailed for a total of 37 years for shooting a footballer at a Tube station and leaving him for dead in a ‘wicked act of violence’.

Jordan Gabbidon, 17, of Greenwood Terrace, Harlesden, and Samuel Woods, 16, of Windrush Road, Harlesden, were sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on Thursday, January 5 for attempted murder and have each been imprisoned for 12 years and six months in a youth detention centre.

Ola Salau, 18, of Nettleden Avenue, Wembley, and Chantelle Franklin, 17, of Edgware Road, Cricklewood, were convicted of possession of a firearm in a public place to enable another to cause fear of unlawful violence.

Salau was sentenced to six years imprisonment. Franklin, who was also convicted of perverting the course of justice, was jailed for a total of six years.

The defendants had all denied the charges during the trial, which lasted for several weeks.

The court heard how the 27-year-old victim, only referred to in court as ‘Paul’ became involved in a row with the group in Mordaunt Road at about 2pm on March 9 last year as he was making his way home to south east London following a crime-prevention football tournament nearby.

The youths chased Paul into Harlesden station before Gabbidon shot him in the back as he tried to run down the stairs to escape. He was shot from a range of six metres and fell to the ground as he reached the platform.

Paul managed to board a Bakerloo line train to Willesden Junction station, where his injuries were reported to British Transport Police and the London Ambulance Service. He was taken to hospital for emergency surgery for wounds from shotgun pellets in his back, which had damaged his spine and liver.

British Transport Police Detective Inspector Karl Skrzypiec said: “The victim was shot for nothing more than an argument in the street and left at the station for dead.”

He added: “I would like to thank the witnesses who came forward and provided vital evidence during the trial to lead us to these convictions. This was a shocking incident which happened in broad daylight just yards from a busy road and those responsible are clearly capable of completely disproportionate acts of extreme violence.”

Upon sentencing, Judge Aidan Marron QC called the shooting a ‘wicked and ruthless act of violence’.

The jailed teenagers’ names could only be revealed after reporting restrictions were lifted by the judge.

Kevin Georgiou, 26, of Stonebridge, a rapper signed by Beyonce’s husband Jay Z, and on the verge of superstardom, was cleared of his alleged involvement in the attack during an earlier hearing.
