THE teenage mother who abandoned her son just a day after giving birth has contacted police eleven days after leaving him alone in the maternity ward at a Harrow hospital.

Vietnamese 17-year-old Van Thi Dam left Northwick Park Hospital on Sunday, January 16, leaving her one-day-old baby boy - named 'Quy' by staff at the hospital.

Police have confirmed that she has contacted officers today as a direct result of media coverage of her disappearance.

Since she left the hospital gifts and donations have flooded in for her baby who was being cared for by a foster family.

A police spokesperson said today: "As a direct result of media appeals Van Thi Dam, who went missing from Northwick Park Hospital on the 16 January, has this morning made contact with police.

"She will be offered the appropriate support.

"We thank the media for their support."
