There's no need for 13-year-old Bishal Debnath to blow his own trumpet - he's got London mayor Boris Johnson to do that for him.

The teenage trumpeter, who attends Lampton School, in Hounslow, has been named an 'outstanding scholar' in the brass category of the first ever London Music Awards.

He was up against hundreds of other Mayor's Scholars, who receive funding from the Mayor's Music Fund to pursue their passion.

Bishal, who is also supported by Hounslow Music Service, is due to collect his award - a Yamaha trumpet - from Mr Johnson during a ceremony at the Roundhouse, in Camden, next Wednesday (June 11), where he will also perform.

"I am really pleased to have won the award as I have worked hard on my trumpet skills in the three years I have been playing," said the youngster, who is due to take his grade seven exams this summer.
