FOLLOWING the recent publication of the local councillor allowances in the boroughs of Brent and Harrow, the contrast in the increases is very revealing, with the Tory-controlled Harrow Council voting themselves an increase of 22.59 per cent, up to £8,000 per year, while the Liberal Democrat and Tory coalition-controlled Brent voted themselves a 2.17 per cent increase up to £7,684.

In view of the campaign in Harrow, claiming inadequate central government grants resulting in cuts and higher charges for council service users, the huge increase is a sad reflection and contempt on the apathetic, disenchanted council tax payers by the majority of elected local council representatives.
