Syon Park has applied for permission to host a series of hospitality events during the Rugby World Cup next year.

The Northumberland Estates, which manages the grounds on the Brentford and Isleworth borders on behalf of the Duke of Nothumberland, wants to hold drinks receptions there ahead of seven key matches at Twickenham Stadium in October 2015.

It already has planning permission to erect a temporary marquee at the site from May to September each year, but wants to extend that until the tournament final on October 31 next year.

In its application to Hounslow Council it states guests would arrive between 11am and midday for a drinks reception and lunch ahead of the games, which all kick off at 5pm or 8pm. There would be no post-match entertainment at the grounds.

The Northumberland Estates says the events, all of which would take place at the weekend, would be aimed at groups of international tourists. Coaches would be provided to transport them to and from Syon Park.

The planning application was submitted on July 23 and a decision has yet to be made.
