HAREFIELD Academy's swimming starlet Karley Mann picked up her GCSE results after returning from Peru, where she scooped a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke at the Fina World Junior Championships.

Karley, 16, has high hopes of making the GB Olympic team, and is training hard ahead of March's team trials.

She has secured a place on the Academy's Sporting Excellence BTEC next year, which gives talented young sportspeople the chance to hone their performance and coaching abilities on a curriculum that fits around their rigorous training regimes.

The academy is celebrating its best GCSE results to date, with 88 per cent of pupils achieving five A* to C grades.

Principal Lynn Gadd said: "We are proud of all of our students and particularly those who train so hard for their chosen sport while studying for GCSE examinations."
