A SUPERMARKET and tube station were both evacuated after a double scare in Chiswick.

Emergency services flooded the streets on Thursday (March 22) when shop staff reported a suspicious package in Sainsburys superstore in High Road.

The store was evacuated and cordoned off, but the package turned out not to be a threat.

A fire brigade spokesperson said: "This was a police incident and we attended the scene at 10.05am and left by 10.36am."

Hounslow Police were also at the scene but would not comment on the incident.

A Sainsburys spokesperson said: "Having found a suspect item in the recycling area outside the store we notified the emergency services."

Just an hour later concerns were raised again when the emergency services returned, this time to Turnham Green station.

Commuters were evacuated from the station after a signalling failure and ambulances were called to a stalled train,

However, a spokesperson said when they arrived they did not need to treat anybody.
