Servicemen past and present said an emotional farewell to an historic landmark on Friday (30).

The last of the personnel marched out of RAF Bentley Priory as it was handed over to developers at 4pm.

Veterans joined serving officers to wish a fond farewell to the building, which served as the base for coordinating the Battle of Britain during the Second World War.

The Union Jack was taken down and folded away during the Sunset ceremony and two Hawk jets performed a fly-by.

The building will now be converted into flats with a military history museum also preserved inside it.
