TOP performing students were honoured for their academic success at a glitzy awards ceremony attended by a star of last year's Apprentice television show.

Uxbridge College held the awards at The Beck Theatre in Grange Road, Hayes, on Thursday, with outspoken Melody Hossaini meeting with and speaking to achievers.

Overall winner was Sabhya Khan, 18, of Myddleton Road, Uxbridge, who tutored fellow pupils, running maths clinics, and is now off to Cambridge University to study medicine.

Other winners include Basel Al-Saraf, 21, Mandeep Singh, 19, Jasmine Salvador, 19, and Abby Tearall, 22, who completed her qualifications despite suffering a serious car accident at the start of the year.

Laraine Smith, principal, said: "Uxbridge College is here to do its very best for our students and to give everyone who joins us an opportunity, no matter what their starting point.

"We enable people of all ages to fulfil their potential, provide support across the board as well as excellent teaching, and aim to prepare our students to achieve the best possible progression when they leave."
