Only hermits will be unaware of the TV programme advising the public how to recognise the symptoms of strokes and what action they need to take.

Yes, we have the message that speed is of the essence. It beggars belief that we read in last week's Gazette that a proposal has been made to shut down the Stroke and Trauma Unit at Ealing Hospital, thus depriving stroke victims of a hospital facility within the borough.

Oldies like me remember some of the quotes from our schooldays. 'Lord forgive them for they know not what they do' seems appropriate.

I am sure the majority in Ealing will give a resounding NO!
