TELEVISION'S hit series Strictly Come Dancing returns to our screens this week but the celebrity's taking to the floor could learn a thing or two from members of Harrow's disabled disco club.

The Wheelchair Dancing Club, which meets every Monday night at Flash Musicals Theatre in Edgware, mix disco moves and wheelchair dancing to tailor their own choreograph.

And although they are impressive across the dance floor regular participant Steve Symmonds describes the club as 'great fun for all'.

He said: “We don’t take ourselves too seriously here. It’s all about having fun and enjoying ourselves while meeting up and getting some exercise too.

“It isn’t just for people in wheelchairs either, anyone with a mobility issue can benefit.

“We are always open to welcoming new members, it’s a lot of fun.”

Facilitated by project co-ordinator at the venue, Terry Revill, the dance club which is supported by Harrow Council has been meeting for almost two years and portfolio holder for adult social care, councillor Margaret Davine added:“Harrow Council is very proud to support clubs such as this one that work hard within our communities to offer social events and exercise for people with mobility problems.

“It is a great event that is well attended every week by men and women ranging in age from 18 right into their 50s.

“The dance teachers tailor the classes for those in wheelchairs as well as those who are able to walk, making it fully accessible and enjoyable for everyone.”

New members to the Monday Wheelchair Dancing Club are always welcome.
