Families and friends braved heavy downpours to attend a Bedfont street party to help drum up funds towards a new sensory garden for a disabled teenager.

Grandmother Denise Marriott, 53, of St Mary's Drive in Bedfont, with the help of good friend Sammie Elliott, who came up with the idea of the event, were thrilled to raise around £1,200 for 14-year-old Reyan Marriott of Southall.

There were games for children, a bouncy castle, face painting, a chance to meet firefighters from Feltham fire station and explore the big red vehicle, a raffle, and auction, as well as food and drinks to help keep people warm on Sunday August 23.

Businesses including Costa Coffee, Tesco Express and staff and punters in The Bell on the Green pub made considerable donations too.

Ms Marriott said: "Despite the rain it was a massive success.

"A couple of local businesses were very kind and donated bits for us, and the local people that came to support our cause - it has been heart warming to say the least. We are so grateful to everyone."

Reyan was born with disabilities and is currently recovering from a spinal operation to straighten her back which was 70% curved.

The brave youngster lives with her mum Carina Marriott, 32, in Southall.

The family were disappointed after being refused a grant to fund the equipment which can help in Reyan's development, which inspired the fundraising event.
