A STOLEN black Mercedes was used in a ram raid on Gucci's flagship store in Sloane Street on Wednesday night (March 6).

Shortly before 10pm the car was reversed into store where approx three men snatched handbags and drove off in a blue Audi A4.

Police are appealing for witnesses, and a spokesman said: "Inquiries are underway after a smash and grab raid on a store in Kensington. At approx 21.50hrs on Wednesday 6 March a car reversed into a Gucci store in Sloane Street SW1, smashing the doors. It was a black Mercedes - now confirmed as a lost or stolen vehicle.

"A number of suspects - possibly three - grabbed handbags from the store before making off in another vehicle: a blue Audi A4. Officers from Kensington & Chelsea CID are conducting the investigation. There has been no arrest at this time."

Gucci describe the store on their website as a "flagship boutique" that covers 20,000 square feet on two floors. The high-end fashion retailer stocks handbags that sell for more than £2,000 and women's shoes that can cost upwards of £700.
