GOOD grief, Labour's Councillor Phil O'Dell still doesn't get it ['Pity we have to rely on state handouts to improve park', Letters, Observer December 11].
Three years on and we are still clearing up the financial nuclear fallout of his administration. The money from the sale of the old mortuary was to plug the galactic-sized black hole left by Labour in Harrow's finances. Fortunately it was sold before Labour trashed the property market.
By bidding for funds for Byron Park, for which Labour left none in the kitty, we are looking to improve an area in need of some TLC, and which is in fact a Labour ward for which they have done little.
Had we not bid, he, or more likely the carping Gareth Thomas, would have jumped on that bandwagon. With Labour, you just cannot win, literally.
If extra money is available to help Harrow, we will bid for it. Simple really.
But here is a point with which I agree with Phil. All of you readers out there should log on, go to www.london.gov.uk/parksvote and support Byron Park.
Send the link to all of your friends, families and e-mail contacts and ask them to do likewise.
Mayor Boris Johnson has got some money up for grabs. Let's make sure that our Byron Park is in with a shout, so get surfing and voting.
