DISABLED access to a Crossrail station came a step closer this week after the release of a feasibility study.

The Department for Transport (DfT) and Transport for London (TfL) sent engineers to investigate the possibility of making Hanwell station step free.

Other good news is the confirmation there will be four trains an hour at Hanwell and a Sunday service.

The report says two lifts could be installed at the station and TfL and the DfT are looking at how they can be funded.

When completed the Crossrail service will enable people to get from Hanwell to Canary Wharf in 26 minutes.

Hanwell Community Forum chairwoman Carolyn Brown said: “It’s looking very positive... which we’re absolutely over the moon about.

“It would be incredibly shortsighted of the funding body not to find the budget to ensure the station is open to everyone in the 21st century. And the possibility that we’ll get a Sunday service is something we have wanted for donkey’s years. It’s all finally good news but we have a little way to go yet.”

Crossrail will be fully operational by the end of 2019. The line will boost London’s rail-based capacity by 10 per cent, connecting Reading and Heathrow in the west and Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.
