Two pupils from Bentley Wood High School in Stanmore met David Cameron when they attended a Downing Street reception on Tuesday (July 1).

Year Nine pupils Veera Bakhai and Sharanya Gajapathy visited the Prime Minister as part of an ongoing programme marking the First World War centenary.

As part of the programmes, pupils from the girls school in Bridges Road, Stanmore have been on a government-funded World War One battlefield tours. The girls prepared a photograph album of the places they visited on their trip, and showed it to Mr Mr Cameron.

The pair discussed with Mr Cameron the Cloth Hall in the centre of the Belgian town of Ypres, which is now a museum called Flanders Field, as the Prime Minister had visited it a few days earlier.

The girls were accompanied by Head of History Roisin Murray, who said: "This is a fantastic opportunity and a really enjoyable afternoon, something we will never forget. I am really extremely proud of the contribution made by these students."

During their visit, the girls and Miss Murray heard the Prime Minister set out details of a £5m fund to conserve and protect war memorials.
