A FIVE day sponsored trek around the Peak District looks like it will raise more than £80,000 for St Luke’s Hospice.

More than 80 people completed the Kenton-based charity’s Peak District Challenge between May 1 to May 5.

Participant John Flint said: “It was a fantastic walk, with beautiful scenery, good companions, and it even took me through the village where I was born.

“The weather was excellent and I had no blisters, nor strained muscles.”

The walkers set off at 7am on the Thursday and took in Tissington, Youlgreave, Castleton, the grounds of Chatsworth House during the 76-mile route, finishing above Matlock Spa.

The hospice’s annual walk organiser, Lesley Dodd, said: “For many regular walkers this walk was ‘the best ever’ and the newcomers all rose magnificently to the days’ challenges and were delighted with the support they received to fulfil their own personal challenge.

“Now the walkers are back, the second challenge is for them to raise their sponsorship target, but such was their enthusiasm that I’m sure their efforts will be well rewarded and it is hoped that £80,000 will be raised for the hospice.”
