Pupils at have won first prize in a national film-making competition about anti-bullying.

Ruta's Story was made by 11-year-olds Gabriele, Andrea, William and Shane at St George's Catholic Primary School and the quartet collected their top prize from education charity Into Film last week.

The four, all members of the school's media and film club, said afterwards: “Winning this competition has given us loads more confidence and we really hope we can continue with media and film club when we move on to secondary schools in September.”

St George's media and film club leader Madeline Rands said: “As a school, we regularly explore the theme of anti-bullying and the Into Film competition was an opportunity to make a film we could show to the whole school.

“It was a great experience, everyone had so much fun making it. All the retakes and giggles during the shoot made it a real group activity.”

The win earned the school in Sudbury Hill £200 worth of film making equipment including a green screen and studio-quality microphone.

Their film tells the tale of Ruta, a young girl from Lithuania who is new to her school, and is bullied by Rose and her friends.

She longs for a superhero to help her and finds her wish granted when Anti-Bullying Man arrives to help.
He contacts the head teacher, who deals with the bullying, and the film ends with Rupa and Rose becoming friends.

The film is so popular that it is highlighted on the website of national anti-bullying charity BeatBullying.
