FORMER top-flight footballers will play in a charity match in honour of a Northwood soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Spurs fan Tom Lake, a private in The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) last November, a few weeks into his first tour. He was 29.

His childhood friends, Leanne Small and Natalie Coshall, have organised the charity game.

Team Lake, made up of Tom’s Sunday league team and friends and his battalion team, will take on Tottenham Hotspur Legends, with a squad featuring Darren Anderton, Andy Sinton, and Clive Wilson.

The match is at Northwood Football Club in Chesnut Avenue on Sunday, August 19. Kick-off is at 2pm, with admission costing £2 for adults and free for under-16s.

A raffle will feature prizes including signed football memorabilia and Premier League tickets. Proceeds from the day will be go to the Help for Heroes forces charity and to Tom’s regiment – causes chosen by Tom’s mother, Carol Lake.
