Families who watched enormous flames rip through their gardens and garages in Brainton Avenue believe an electrical sub-station could have been the source of the blaze.

More than 30 people were driven from their houses by the fire which raged for nearly two hours on Sunday night and destroyed seven garages and the sub-station before being brought under control at 7.29pm.

"The sub-station is in the middle of where the flames started," said resident Dawn Gilham, whose garage and garden were completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
