A SPECTACULAR fireworks display lit up Ruislip Lido on Saturday, 200 years after the lake was completed.

The free event put on by Hillingdon Council, which also included children’s fairground rides, was a fitting celebration of the lido’s bicentenary.

It was on December 5, 1811, that Ruislip Reservoir was first opened as a feeder for the Grand Union Canal.

Council leader Ray Puddifoot said: “It’s great to see so many residents of all ages enjoying themselves at the event to celebrate the 200th birthday of Ruislip Lido.

“The lido is a wonderful place for the people of Hillingdon to visit and our plans to enhance the lido facilities will hopefully see future generations continue to enjoy this great asset.”
