A ceremony of thanksgiving for the Queen’s record-breaking reign takes place on Wednesday (September 9) in Kensington.

It is being held at St Mary Abbots Church, in Kensington High Street, to mark Queen Elizabeth II becoming the nation’s longest serving monarch, overtaking the milestone set by Queen Victoria.

The church itself has a long history with the royal family going back hundreds of years.

It has a Royal Door which allows members of the royal family to worship in private and its £7m restoration project is being headed by Sunday congregation member the Duke of Kent.

The Evensong service begins at 5.30pm and will be attended by Kensington & Chelsea Mayor Robert Freeman.
