A SPANISH fan is certain her team can go on to repeat their World Cup winning performance four years ago.

Rebeca López, 26, of Hamilton Road, Dollis Hill, will be cheering the current champions on in this summer’s World Cup in London.

Four years ago she remembers a typically Spanish celebration in her hometown Xove in Galicia, in the north west of the country, and is looking forward to the atmosphere here.

Miss López, a chemical engineer who works in Neasden, said: “I was so happy last time when Spain won. We watched it on a big screen in the square outside the town hall in my home town. I was with my family, it’s a pretty small town so everyone was there and they had all painted their faces. People were jumping in the fountain and driving round the town beeping their horns. Some people had fireworks, everyone was really happy. It was really good fun.”

She thinks her team can go all the way this time as well, but they will be without her favourite player.

Miss López said: “They can definitely win but they are missing Carles Puyol, I hope we can still do it. We still have Xavi. Puyol was my favourite because I think he is like a bull, I like the way he plays, he is always fighting until the end, I like this attitude.”

The football fan is a Barcelona supporter, and Puyol and Xavier “Xavi” Hernández i Creus have both been part of this team.

Her boyfriend, who is also Spanish, is a Real Madrid supporter, but this summer they will united in supporting the national team.

She added: “We watched the Euro championship in London a few years ago and the atmosphere was amazing, I’m looking forward to watching the World Cup here.”
