A SINGER from Southall has made it through to the latest leg of the worldwide Miss India 2012 contest.

Anu Sihota, 26, was born in Southall and attended Featherstone High School. She won the West London leg of the competition and is now through to the national finals next Saturday (October 27).

Miss Sihota, who is with the pop group Serese, was encouraged to take part by her manager and submitted her entry form in early August.

She said: “I’m super-excited to get this far. Right now I’m feeling really anxious as I just want to get out there for the finals and show them what I can do.

“I decided I wanted to be involved with this is it would provide me with a great opportunity to break into the Bollywood industry, which is something I’ve always wanted to be part of.

“I’ll be performing a medley of Bollywood hits in the talent round, which is great because performing is my favourite thing in the world.

“The best thing about taking part in this is that is how much I’ve learned about myself and how to react to different situations. For me, just to be competing is an incredible experience.”

Contestants are encouraged to get involved with charity work, and Miss Sihota said she has chosen WaterAid, which helps provide clean water to people in the developing world, as her good cause.

She said: “WaterAid is a charity which has always been close to my heart. There is not a day that goes by that I am not thankful for being alive, healthy and my loved ones being safe.”

She will be raising money by walking down Oxford Street in central London on Halloween during mid-afternoon, in a costume selected from suggestions on her justgiving page, www.justgiving.com/Anu-Sihota.

The national finals of Miss India will be at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire. You can find out more about by going to the website www.missindiaworldwide.co.uk.
