Sir John Randall will join party rebels to vote against HS2 during the Hybrid Bill second reading in Parliament.

The former deputy chief whip is choosing to rebel against the Conservative party by not voting in favour of the £50billion project.

Mr Randall, MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, joins an estimated 20 to 40 Conservatives who will defy party whips during the Commons debate.

The vote on the project is expected to take place at around 10pm.

Hundreds of ‘Stop HS2’ campaigners are making their way to Parliament today to lead a demonstration against the high speed line and urge MPs to vote against it.

If the Hybrid Bill passes tonight, the petitioning process for mitigation from HS2 will then open.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson is expected to petition to extend the Northolt Tunnel past Ickenham.
