A CHARITABLE son is embarking on a fundraising mission to raise money for the hospice which cared for his father.

Danny Beever, 36, of Locket Road, Wealdstone, is hoping to raise £1,400 through a series of events for St Luke’s Hospice, Kenton, in memory of his dad, Kevin, who was cared for up until his death from pancreatic cancer in November last year.

Mr Beever, a gardener, said: “The staff at the hospice were unbelievable. I just can’t put in to words how amazing they were, so I want to give something back. My dad was only there for just over a day but I saw his face when he got to St Luke’s and I knew he was happy there.”

Kevin Beever, 63, a chemical engineer in Sudbury, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just 10 weeks before his death. His family, sons Danny and Simeon, 38, and wife Val, 62, were overwhelmed by the support given to both them and Kevin.

Danny said: “My dad left some money to St Luke’s in his will and he always played their lottery, so I am sure he would be very proud of what I am doing. My father was a very loving man when you got to know him. He was very loving, especially with his family.”

Danny is one of a number of people taking part in the St Luke’s Jail and Bail charity event and will be ‘arrested’ by Harrow police officers and put in the cells at a police station in a mock arrest in March.

He will also take part in a charity sky dive in April and needs to raise £1,400.

“I am sure it will be quite fun,” he said.

Tim Todhunter, community fundraising team leader at St Luke’s Hospice, said: “We have got lots of people signed up to do the challenge so far, such as the leader of the council and manager of St George’s shopping centre.

“There are 15 places and people are still welcome to join.

“Hopefully they will raise money beforehand and then when they are locked in the cells we will give them a phone for any last minute donations.”
