Soldiers due for deployment to Afghanistan will get a heroes send-off from Hounslow next week as they march through the streets in a celebratory parade.

More than 300 Fusiliers from the Second Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, which is based at Hounslow Barracks, will take part in the parade next Thursday.

And council chiefs are hoping thousands of patriotic residents will line the route to show their support.

Council leader Peter Thompson said: "As they prepare for deployment I want to make sure the men and women of the battalion know how proud we are to have them in our borough. We will be thinking of them when they are serving in Afghanistan, and hope to see them all return safely."

The Fusiliers are due to leave in April. They have been involved in a number of community projects over the past year and the parade will follow a two-day leadership training programme for local youngsters run at the barracks on March 3 and 4.

Corporal Mark Hyman said: "It's certainly very busy - one minute on exercise, and the next coaching football to local children.

"The kids love it though, and I enjoy the coaching - particularly with the football talent in this area."

Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Calder added: "I hope the locals support the parade and give us a send off to remember."

The parade begins near the bus station, at the top of Hounslow High Street, at 4pm, on March 5. It will pass the war memorial in the High Street, onto Lampton Road and arrive in Lampton Park at 4.30pm.
