TWO generations of war heroes were honoured with a special Christmas ceremony in Chelsea.

Chelsea Pensioners, at the Royal Hospital, in Royal Hospital Road, stood shoulder to shoulder with troops bound for Afghanistan early next year.

The Pensioners welcomed Territorial Army soldiers Lance Corporal George Anderson and Private Ben

Gorringe, both 31 and from the London Regiment, based in Horseferry Road, Pimlico, to the hospital for the Ceremony of the Christmas Cheeses on Wednesday last week. Among the Pensioners was 94-year-old Bill Moylon, who helped build the infamous bridge over the River Kwai, in Thailand, while he was a prisoner of war.

Every year, British cheesemakers from across

the country donate their cheeses to the Pensioners.

The tradition began in 1692, when the hospital asked a cheesemonger to provide the Pensioners with cheese as a special Christmas treat.

This year, cheesemakers and Pensioners decided to pay tribute to the bravery of young men and women who continue to serve, knowing they are destined for combat.
