A STORE boss went on a sponsored diet to help customers and colleagues raise a staggering £10,000 for Meadow House Hospice.

Trevor Rasmussen, manager of Sainsburys in West Ealing, shed one and a half stone raising £400 and earmarked the hospice for its annual charity last year.

Through donations and sponsored events, the customers and colleagues raised the rest with money still coming in.

He was nominated for a Pride in Our People Award, offered by Thames Valley University and the Gazette, by the hospice's former fund-raising manager Helen Ryan. She said: "I was very happy when I learned that Sainsbury's West Ealing had chosen MH as their Charity of the Year 2009/10 and excited about the opportunities ahead. They have worked as a team to run a number of events to support MH as it is a local charity. Their enthusiasm and attitude reflect a great team who always have a welcoming smile."

Mr Rasmussen said: "I am very surprised to be nominated but delighted. We chose Meadow House because of the fantastic work they do in the community. Most of our customers are fairly local and know Meadow House so were happy to contribute."
