A slimming group in Osterley has helped members lose the weight of a small car since it was launched a year ago.

Toni Brennan set up the Osterley Slimming World group at Hounslow Conservative Club, in Gresham Road, on July 30 last year.

Since then she has helped more than 100 members lose 150 stone between them, which is roughly a ton - the weight of a small car.

She has just opened her third weekly session at the venue, at 10am every Tuesday, which is aimed at mothers who find it harder to attend in the evenings. She also runs sessions there at 5.30pm and 7.30pm on Tuesdays.

"I'm very pleased with how many people we've been able to help, and how much weight they've been able to lose. They couldn't do it without each others' support," she said.

Ms Brennan is now determined to tackle child obesity in Hounslow, where nearly a quarter (24.6 per cent) of 10 and 11-year-olds are clinically obese.

Young people aged 11 to 15 can attend for free if accompanied by a paying adult. There is a special programme called 'Cool Swaps' aimed at helping them find change their favourite foods for healthier alternatives.

Members of the Osterley and Hanworth Slimming World groups recently donated 70 bags of clothes to charity.
