JUBLIANT pupils at Sion-Manning school screamed with delight as the year of 2009 attained the best results in its 51 year history.

At least 70 per cent of the pupils the Roman Catholic girls' school, in St Charles' Square, Ladbroke Grove, got at least five A* to C GCSE grades this morning.

It marks a 14 per cent improvement in just two years at the popular North Kensington establishment.

Head teacher Christina Leach, who hugged pupils streaming tears of joy, said: "These are the best results ever recorded at the school. I couldn't be more proud if they were my own children."

Amongst the ecstatic pupils was Bianca Nevins, 16, who lives off Wood Lane.

She opened her results surrounded by her four older sisters Nyziah, Nikita, Georgina and Tanisha, who came along for moral support.

Clutching a paper confirming one A*, four As, four Bs and a C, she said: "I'm so pleased with what I've got."

Her sisters shouted 'she's done fantastically' before posing for a picture.

Pupil Amanda Opuku was shaking with delight as she gained eight A*s, four As at GCSE.

"I thank God," said Ms Opuku, who will now study A-levels at St Marylebone.

Best friends Sartu Banya, Maythe Ureta, Anousha Soleymani-Nejad and Daisy Hobbs said they were going to 'party hard' after getting a clutch of As, Bs and Cs.

It marks the last year they will spend together, as Sion-Manning doesn't have a sixth form.

But it was vice-chair of governors Tony O'Halloran had the last word.

He said: "I'm delighted at our improvement. I hope that in the future many of the girls will be off to Oxford or Cambridge."
