Singer Lee Mead, winner of BBC1's 2007 Any Dream Will Do musical theatre competition is coming to the Beck theatre with his new solo tour.

The 33-year-old will perform a new set of songs in the acoustic-style show at the theatre in Grange Road, Hayes, this Sunday (July 20).

“I’m really excited," he told the Gazette.

The borough is lucky to have Lee, who is only putting on 13 shows across the year due to his demanding schedule filming Casualty for BBC1.

"I wanted to do a gig each week but I can only do one a month," he explained.

Lee Mead in Concert is  an 'acoustic, stripped down show'.

"During the last tour the theatres were larger venue," said Lee.

"I wanted to do smaller venues that had more of an intimate feel. It’s more about the vocals."

He will perform classics such as Hallelujia, Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles, and Fix You by Coldplay - Lee's favourite song of the set.

“It’s beautiful,” he said.

“And it’s nice to do my own take on it. It’s so simple but powerful."

He will also sing some musical theatre favourites such as Some Enchanted Evening from South Pacific,Lovely Lady from Guys and Dolls as well as Father and Son, originally sung by Cat Stevens and covered by Boyzone in the 1990s.

"I'll also be doing some arrangements of different songs," he said.

"It’s very acoustic and guitar lead."

He says so far, feedback has been positive.

"It’s gone down really well.

"I get kids of seven or eight coming along, teenagers, mums, grannies - I’m quite lucky."

People will get the rare chance to enjoy some of their favourite 'big numbers' without the production lights, chorus and dancers that often come with them.

"We don’t do the whole big produced version," Lee explained.

"I’m playing the guitar myself."

And after so many years in the business, Lee says he is not worried about taking to the stage on his own.

"It’s not nerve wracking," he said.

"I’ve been doing it a while now. All I worry about is that everyone enjoys it."

After his tour ends in December Lee will perform in pantomime in Cardiff's New Theatre as Prince Charming in Cinderella, and Lee says his 4-year-old daughter Betsy, with former partner Denise Van Outen can't wait to see her daddy on stage.

"She'll come to panto - she's just old enough to enjoy it.

"She came to see me as Robin Hood in Plymouth and loved it - it's really sweet."

And 2015 looks just as busy.

"I keep being asked why I haven’t made a record, but I thought it had been done so many times by people like Michael Ball ," he revealed.

"But then I remembered, growing up we couldn’t afford to go to the West End and most of my passion came from the MGM films - Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, that sort of thing, 1940s and 1950s music.

"So that's the plan."

Lee says the show is suitable for anyone of any age who likes music and musical and contemporary theatre.
