Singer Kate Bush has asked the audience at next week's Hammersmith Apollo shows to put down their iPhones to 'share in the experience together'.

The much-anticipated 22 show stint of Before the Dawn may start next Tuesday (August 26) but if the elusive singer gets her way it may seem more like 1979 - when she last played at the Apollo for her only tour to date.

An update on the 55-year-old's website said: "We have purposefully chosen an intimate theatre setting rather than a large venue or stadium.

"It would mean a great deal to me if you would please refrain from taking photos or filming during the shows. I very much want to have contact with you as an audience, not with iphones, ipads or cameras. I know it's a lot to ask but it would allow us to all share in the experience together."

Without fanfare, Ms Bush announced on her website in March she would be performing 15 shows at the Apollo and then added seven more days later due to high demand.

She gave a small insight into how preparation for the shows is going and said:  "We're all very excited about the upcoming shows and are working very hard in preparation. It's going very well indeed. Looking forward to seeing you there."
