HARROW'S burglary squad took to the town centre with Trading Standards today in a bid to stop second-hand shops accepting stolen goods.
Two pawnbrokers and an electrical retailers were visited to ensure stores in the area had the right checks in place against accepting property taken in burglaries.
It is part of ongoing operations by the police to crack down on burglaries and sergeant Tim Mason said investigating shops would stop thieves trying to flog goods to them.
He said: "Today was about advising and co-operating with shops in the area that buy goods off people.
"We have been giving some advice on how to spot stolen goods and given them direct phone lines to catch us on if they think anything is suspicious.
"Ultimately, if these shops are not accepting these goods then those carrying out the burglaries will have nowhere to get rid of the stuff they are stealing."
Harrow police are also looking to distribute door notices and key rings in areas susceptible to burglaries telling them to lock doors and windows and make sure car and house keys are not left near the front door.
