A DJ has been jailed after being made to face the music for cheating the taxpayer out of thousands of pounds in benefits, handling stolen goods and possessing drugs.

Adrian Prince, of Stebbing House, in Shepherd's Bush, was sentenced to four months in prison for benefit fraud at Isleworth Crown Court on March 12.

The 37-year-old also received a two year jail term for handling a stolen Rolex and possessing cocaine, diamorphine and cannabis at the same hearing.

Prince was tracked down after failing to tell Hammersmith and Fulham Council that he had begun working for cash at gigs across London and was ineligible for Job Seeker Allowance.

That meant he continued to rake in £15,000 in housing and council tax benefit.

Councillor Greg Smith, residents’ services spokesman for the council, said: “Benefit's fraudsters who try to swindle this council will always face the music.

“Prince tried to cheat the system, by hiding his work as a DJ, and will now have plenty of time to contemplate his next play list as he spends time at Her Majesty's pleasure.”

The council continued its crackdown on tax evaders with John Noel, of Greenside Road, in Shepherd's Bush, admitting swindling nearly £3,000 in benefits and will be sentenced next month.

The 41-year-old hid the fact he was employed as a security guard at three companies and falsely claimed £1,875 in housing benefit and £997 in council tax relief.

Mehvish Khan, 26, of Ellerslie Road, Shepherd's Bush, has also been fined after illegally obtaining a parking permit.

She falsely claimed to live at her mother's address in Bute Gardens, in Hammersmith, to evade parking meter charges and was fined £365 at Hammersmith Magistrates Court last week.

“The council carefully scrutinises how every penny of taxpayers' money is spent and we will continue to clamp down hard on those who think that fraud is acceptable,” added Mr Smith.
