LABOUR councillor Jagdish Sharma's accusations (Chronicle June 5) of 'institutional racism' levelled against the Tory-led council are utterly baseless and in very poor taste.
Cllr Sharma was condemning planning enforcements and stiff fines against Asian householders who have overdeveloped their homes without obtaining prior planning permission, and blatantly converting single-family dwellings into as many as three separate units, even turning rear garages into habitable accommodation, and charging as much as £2,000 a month as rent from multiple occupants.
With the coming of Conservatives at the council, strict action against illegal building works has shown how widespread the problem of unauthorised construction is in Hounslow, and court action and hefty fines against offenders are quite in order.
Cllr Sharma accusing Hounslow Council of racism is quite wrong and uncalled for. He is unfit to continue as a councillor.
