A DRUG-ADDLED burglar has been jailed for more than four years after a spate of crimes spanning three boroughs.

James Smith, 26, of Burnley Road, Willesden, was today (Tuesday) sentenced at Harrow Crown Court for five burglaries with a further 106 taken into consideration.

The court heard how Smith targeted cars, businesses and homes in Hillingdon, Harrow and Ealing over a 12 year period.

On one occasion he struck three times in a single day, including ransacking the home of an elderly couple, while serving a suspended sentence for a previous conviction.

The court heard how recovering addict Smith had recently started using drugs again.

In May the Gazette published a picture of Smith in a bid to track him down.

Judge Graham Arran said: "This is a dreadful criminal record. Since 1996 you have been convicted of 21 previous offences, most of them burglaries."

Smith was sentenced to four years for the five burglaries and eight months for breaching a 12 month suspended sentence, given in January, also for burglary.
