Poundland hopes to open its second branch in Hounslow town centre next week.

The discount chain is planning to open a 5,000sqft store at the Treaty Centre, in Hounslow High Street, next Thursday, December 11, though the date has yet to be confirmed.

It is now recruiting staff for the new outlet, which will replace Magenta and The Shoe Store.

Richard Lancaster, trading director of Poundland, which has more than 540 branches nationwide, said: "Poundland has grown significantly over the past 12 months and it’s fantastic to see this expansion continuing with second store in Hounslow. We’re looking forward to opening our doors!”

Should Poundland's opening go ahead next Thursday as planned, it will coincide with the launch of the new two-storey Next at the Treaty Centre, beside H&M, the same day.

It will be Hounslow's second new bargain store in the space of just over a month, following the opening of B&M at the Blenheim Centre beside ASDA on October 31.

Treaty Centre manager Janet Leatherland said: "We are delighted that Poundland has chosen to open its second Hounslow store in the Centre. Treaty has attracted many big retail names over the past few months like Warren James, H&M and of course Next. Things are looking really positive for Treaty which is great news for our shoppers and for Hounslow too."

There was a mixed reaction to the opening of a Poundland in Chiswick in September, with some people thrilled and others expressing their horror at the idea of a discount store in the affluent neighbourhood.
