Hayes people will soon have two Lidl food stores to choose from as a plan to build on the old Hayes Swimming Pool site has been approved.

The discount supermarket chain announced plans to build the new store in October last year (2013).

The retailer plans to build a 2,085sq m store on the site at the corner of Botwell Lane and Central Avenue.

Despite objections from Hayes Chamber of Commerce, Hayes Conservation Area Advisory Panel and Hayes and Harlington MP John McDonnell, councillors on the Major Applications Planning Committee unanimously voted to approve the scheme.

Last year, Lidl said the store would create an estimated 30 full-time and part-time jobs.

Lidl already has a store just over a mile away in Uxbridge Road, and another in Cowley Road, Uxbridge, opened in April 2013.

Hayes Swimming Pool shut shortly before the opening of the Botwell Green Leisure Centre across the road, in June 2010.
