MUD, sweat and tears were all part of a plucky schoolgirl's charity challenge.

Sixth-former Lucie Pacey-Ohanian (left), an A level student at the Green School in Busch Corner, Isleworth, took part in Grim Challenge, an off road race on a route in Hampshire used for testing army vehicles.

She completed the 8.5 mile race in 2 hours 23 minutes on Saturday (December 3) in order to raise money for the William Wilberforce Trust, a charity which helps people suffering from homelessness, addiction or offending.

She said: "This was a great success for me, especially as I had not been prepared for the day, and this was not a straightforward run. The course consisted of running up incredibly steep hills, running back down them on slippery mud, running through freezing cold muddy puddles of water up to my waist and jumping over railway tracks, logs and cattle grids.

"The worst part however was having to get through waist high sticky mud whilst under cargo nets, that were saturated with the mud so were very difficult and heavy to pick up. There was also no time to have a break because otherwise you would sink into the mud and lose your shoes."

The schoolgirl conceded that though she would never do the challenge again she was proud to have completed it.

She said she hoped that her sponsorship from the race would be able to help the charity.
