A TEENAGER is to walk 100-miles across the Netherlands in four days to raise funds for his school.

Viktor Woloszczuk, who attends Gunnersbury School in Ealing, will be one of the 50,314 taking part in the annual four days of marches in and around Nijmegen.

The 14-year-old, who wants to be a commercial pilot, is part of the 342 Squadron ATC Air Cadets based in Brentford, and will be walking with the RAF Middlesex Wing Walking Club.

Viktor of Lexton Road, Acton, is raising funds for his school in return for the time off in July and has made a third of his target so far.

His mother Kim, said: “He has set an ambitious target for fund raising, we thought he would be doing it as part of a group effort so we set it at £1000 but now its an individual target.”

Viktor will walk 25 miles each day, through the Dutch provinces of Gelderland, Brabant and Limburg, and he has so far undertaken some 25-mile day long walks and a 50-mile two day walk in preparation for the event.

He said the two day walk was gruelling and added: “The hardest thing was the food was quite unsubstantial.”

Insufficient food may be just one of the challenges he must overcome. He said: “We don’t have to wear our uniform for the four day walk so I’m experimenting with which clothes will be best. I also tried doing the two day walk in my trainers and I have quite a bad blister, so I will need to try some other shoes.”

Viktor will be awarded the Nijmegen medal upon completion of the walk, which starts on the July 16. It’s a big challenge, and he is looking forward to crossing the finish line.

He said: “I’ll be relieved and happy that I completed it.”

Viktor thanked all those who have donated so far.
