TWO high school staff members have become presenters in a bid to host the world's longest fundraising radio show.

Hatch End High School's Chris Firth, the pastoral support manager, and Richard Parker, a drama teacher, began at 9am this morning their attempt to broadcast for 74 continuous hours on a temporary internet radio station set up for the task: Hatch End Radio.

They have wired up a pop-up studio in the school and are being recorded via webcam.

The duo are playing music requests sent in via e-mail and Twitter by pupils, parents and supporters and will be tackling on-air challenges and welcoming guest performers such as the school choir into the studio.

Proceeds from the three-day long show will go to buy much-needed equipment such as microphones for the school's February production of Joseph And His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat - one of the two annual musicals staged by the school and one that this time involves 200 students in the cast and crew.

Mary Quick, the school's business manager, said: "Chris Firth and Richard Parker both work at Hatch End High School in Harrow.

"By day they both provide pastoral support to students as well as taking part in a number of different arts based projects and being involved in a number of community events that the school produce.

"They are going to present the ‘longest fundraising Project Ever’ and in this, attempt to set a Guinness World Record.

"They intend to broadcast using a temporary school radio station set-up including webcams which will be heard and seen using hehsradio.com - a website set-up for the event in order to raise money for our school production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat which will be performed in February 2013.

"We are ready with a packed line-up which will involve the whole community. The project will include the support of local business’, current Hatch End High students, ex-students and both staff and governors."
