Samaritans have been offering support to commuters and station staff who may have been affected by a recent fatality.

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that a man was hit by a train at Ealing Broadway station at about 1.45pm last Wednesday (October 15).

Volunteers from the Ealing Samaritans branch were present at the station on Friday afternoon (October 17), showing they reach out to the community during difficult times.

A Samaritans spokesperson said: “As part of our partnership work with the rail industry, Samaritans volunteers from our local Ealing branch were present at the station on Friday to offer support to commuters, staff and members of the public who may have been affected by the recent incident.

“We want to remind anyone struggling to cope that Samaritans is available round the clock, every single day of the year by phone on 08457 909090 or email jo@samaritans.org.”

Greenford Green councillor Aysha Raza was travelling through Ealing Broadway on Friday and spotted a couple of the volunteers by their high-visibility jackets.

She said: “They were talking to people on the platform, handing out information and saying that they are here, and asking if everything is alright with people.

“I thought wow- that’s a really positive thing to do, to make sure everything is alright.

“They were a nice presence, something that we as a community need a bit of.”

BTP, colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended the incident last Wednesday and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for BTP said: “His death is not being treated as suspicious.”

A spokeswoman from the LAS said they sent a duty officer, an ambulance crew and a single responder in a car, and London’s Air Ambulance were also called.

She said: “Sadly a person was found dead at the scene.”
